Day 51, Good Friends, Good Food, and Family
Today I met my childhood friend Charlie for lunch. We grew up about five houses apart and have been friends since we were little kids, back when our biggest worry was who got the good baseball card. We had a great time catching up and laughing about old memories. We also enjoyed the best corned beef on Staten Island at O'Neill's. We talked for about two and a half hours and probably could have kept going if life did not insist on schedules.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing with family, which is always a nice way to balance out eating half a cow in corned beef.
Day 52, Smartphone Training, Family, and the Montammy Golf Club
Today I spent most of the day with my sister Connie, helping her learn her new smartphone. She is doing an amazing job and is not even thinking about running back to her flip phone, although I did catch her giving it one last sentimental glance. My niece Pam stopped by, and as always we had plenty of laughs, mostly at ourselves.
Later, I joined my good friend Craig at the Montammy Golf Club which was very impressive. We had an amazing dinner and talked for about two and a half hours. The only downside was the weather. It was pouring when I arrived, pouring when I left, and pouring every second in between, so I did not really see much of the outside of the club. Craig swears the golf course is beautiful, although at that moment it probably looked like an Olympic swimming venue. Montammy has hosted the New Jersey PGA and several US Open qualifier tournaments, so I will take his word for it.
I then drove home through that same pouring rain on the New Jersey Turnpike which is not exactly famous for bright lane markings. I spent most of the drive watching everyone around me, since the road seemed to be playing a disappearing act. I made it home safely and completely dry, which felt like a small miracle.
