Day 1 - My Work Chapter Closes and My Retirement Journey Begins

After 32 incredible years with the Florida Lottery, I officially retired on October 3rd, and just two days later, on October 5th, I hit the road for my next great adventure: a journey through New England, Canada, and beyond!

First stop: Roanoke, Virginia. Next up: Springfield, Massachusetts. The drive along I-10 to I-95, then winding through small towns onto I-73, was long but peaceful, the kind of drive where you start questioning your playlist choices and your life decisions around hour six. I did catch a decent sunset, though North Carolina’s leaves are clearly still deciding whether to commit to fall.

Along the way, memories of my golf trips to Pinehurst came flooding back, especially those unforgettable rounds on Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 8. Great courses, great friends, and great memories.

It wasn’t all easy, either. I saw five deer on the road, which definitely kicked my “hypervigilance” into overdrive. For a moment, I thought I might end up playing real-life Frogger. But with good music and a few meaningful phone calls, I made it safely to my hotel, caffeine level: stable; nerves: slightly elevated.

Ahead lies a dream route filled with history, beauty, and inspiration. The adventure is only beginning, endless coastlines, halls of fame, lighthouses, and lobster rolls lie ahead. 🚗💨

Then comes a flight from Toronto to Calgary, where a brand-new chapter unfolds, back to the breathtaking Northwest, where a fair maiden awaits. ❤️
