The day started bright and early with mass at Pam’s church, a modern church, with beautiful stained glass and pictures. I was amazed to see the church packed at 8:00 a.m. Apparently, Canadians take both faith and punctuality very seriously.
Afterward, we lounged around and had some relaxation before heading to brunch. The restaurant was fantastic, everything on the menu looked photo-worthy. I went with avocado, tomato, lettuce, goat cheese, two eggs, bacon, and fruit. About ten friends joined me, Pam, Pat, Alicia, Donna, Tracy, Stavvy, Lorraine, Susan, and Gloria, plus I got to meet Trent, who immediately fit right into the group. We talked all about sports and had a great time. It was so wonderful seeing everyone and catching up. I was genuinely happy to see each person and have great to conversations, the kind where you laugh, reminisce, and forget how long it’s been.
Next, we went for a “nice long walk with the Loki.” Now, Pam and Loki have been doing this walk for years and Pam insists it’s flat. My legs, however, would like to file a formal complaint. There were more inclines than in a StairMaster commercial. 😎
Dinner was sushi with Pam’s daughter-in-law’s aunt and grandmother, a truly delightful trio. I had a mango-shrimp-avocado roll that was excellent.
To top off the night, we went to Pam’s friend Wendy’s house for a bonfire. It was one of those crisp evenings that make you question your life choices the second you step away from the fire. When we left, it was 39°F, that’s “freezing-but-still-smiling” weather. We laughed, swapped stories, and enjoyed the kind of night that makes you forget about tomorrow’s laundry. Actually, have did a load of wash with all our smoke-filled clothes
Step count for the day: 12,823, proof that I earned every bite of sushi and brunch. 😎
Tomorrow promises to be more laid-back, walking the dog, dinner at a friend’s house, and another night with the gang.
