Today I attempted (for the second time) to reach the top of Mount Washington. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. It was a complete washout, fog so thick I could’ve been sitting inside a cloud and wouldn’t have known it.
I had breakfast at a restaurant that supposedly has a breathtaking view of Mount Washington. Well, unless fog counts as scenic, the only thing I saw was my reflection in the window. The webcam from the summit confirmed it, absolutely nothing to see but mist and regret. Probably a good thing I didn’t go; between the weather and visibility, it looked dangerous
From there, I trudged over to my cousins Mickey and Betty’s house. The drive wasn’t a total loss, I did catch some beautiful fall colors along the way. While we were having lunch, my cousin calmly said, “There’s a bear in the backyard.” I looked up just in time to watch it stroll by like it owned the place. Unfortunately, I was too slow to get a picture. 😪
Dinner was amazing! Betty made eggplant parmesan that could make an Italian Nonna jealous. I’m convinced she has some secret Italian DNA. 😎 Afterward, Mickey and I are watching the Yankees game, which is… well, let’s just say, stressful. 😬
Tomorrow’s plan: lots of hiking and waterfall chasing! It’s finally clearing up, though it’s still chilly, 50s by day and dipping to 30 tonight. 🥶 Tomorrow night it’s expected to hit 29. And when I get to Calgary next Thursday, the forecast says 30 degrees and snow flurries. At this point, I’m starting to think the weather’s following me just for laughs.
