Day 9: Laugh Tracks and Landscapes - From Vitameatavegimen to Canyon Views

Today was all about laughter and landscapes! I kicked things off in Jamestown, New York,  the hometown of Lucille Ball herself. The Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz Museum was pure nostalgia, from the classic I Love Lucy sets to the behind-the-scenes stories that showed just how groundbreaking she really was. The history was fascinating, CBS didn’t even want to give them a show, so they built their own studio. I was amazed by how many other TV shows they went on to produce there. Lots of great backstories about everyone involved in I Love Lucy. I also had no idea Lucy started out as a model, what a career she had!

Just down the street, the National Comedy Center kept the laughter rolling. It’s an interactive wonderland where you can create your own comedy profile, watch stand-up clips, and even try writing your own jokes. Let’s just say I discovered I’m funnier in my head than on paper. 😎

My favorite part, though, was the “farting chairs.” Yes, actual chairs that made loud fart noises when you sat on them. Four women were cracking up as they kept sitting down over and over, and before I knew it, I was laughing right along with them. I was trying to read some jokes etched into the windows, but their laughter was so contagious I couldn’t stop.

Since I didn’t have much else on the schedule, I skipped the Barcelona Lighthouse and hit the road for Letchworth State Park, often called the “Grand Canyon of the East.” The waterfalls were absolutely amazing, surrounded by autumn colors that glowed even through the light rain. These were easily the best waterfalls I’ve seen since leaving the West Coast. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop, breathe, and just take it all in. The views were incredible, and the sound of the roaring water,  that’s something I’ll never get tired of.

Tonight, I’ve landed in Buffalo, ready for a good night’s rest before tomorrow’s big stop: Niagara Falls,  both the New York side and the Canadian side, before heading on toward Toronto.
