Day 20: Mountains Lighthouses, and Lobsters, Oh My!

Day in Acadia: Mountains, Lobsters, and a Lighthouse Life

Today I drove to Acadia National Park, and wow, it did not disappoint. My first stop was Sand Beach. For some strange reason, I momentarily forgot I was on the Atlantic Ocean, until that chilly sea breeze reminded me! The beach and all those ocean views were absolutely stunning.

Next up was Jordan Pond, which is really more of a lake, but who’s keeping track? The water itself wasn’t exactly jaw-dropping, but the backdrop, mountains and ocean views, made it picture-perfect. I could have stayed there all afternoon if the promise of more sights hadn’t been calling.

Then came Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the Eastern Seaboard. The views from the top were incredible, ocean on one side, mountains on the other, and me in the middle wondering if I could ever go back to flat land again. Again, these are nothing like the Canadian Rockies, but definitely had a special beauty to them.

After that, I made my way to the Bass Harbor Head Light. Built in 1855 and it’s still active today, and a Coast Guard member actually lives there with their family. Pretty cool setup, though I was expecting something a bit more towering. Turns out, even lighthouses can be fun-sized.

From there, I drove to Portland, Maine. I didn’t see any moose or deer on the way, probably for the best, since I was too busy daydreaming about dinner. I ended up at one of Portland’s top-rated lobster spots, the Porthole and went for the “twin lobster special.” After the first lobster, I was stuffed. The second one is now chilling in my fridge, awaiting its grand debut as tomorrow’s breakfast. 😎

Tomorrow’s plan, exploring Portland, then heading to Portsmouth, Kennebunkport, and the Cape Neddick (Nubble) Lighthouse, and of course, continuing my quest for more lobster. 😎🦞
